Our school garden is looking great and we are gearing up for planting a fall garden in the next few weeks! Our new garden teacher, Mrs. Lawatch, is hoping to give the garden some TLC before school starts. The walkways in the garden have been over-taken by weeds, and our greenhouses require some quick fixes to improve their performance.
In order to combat the weeds, we are looking for a donation of gravel (pea gravel preferred) to revamp the walkways and to cover the greenhouse floors. If you or anyone you know is willing to donate gravel to our school, please contact Brooke Lawatch at email@example.com to arrange this.
Additionally, Mrs. Lawatch has set-up a DonorsChoose project in which she is asking for miscellaneous tools and supplies needed for garden improvements. If you would like to make a donation to this project, please use the following link: https://www.donorschoose.org/project/you-make-me-wanna-sprout/4251947/
Until we can secure a donation of gravel, the following are opportunities for volunteerism at our school garden*:
-continue to weed all garden beds
-pull out all strawberries (new strawberries will be planted this fall as the current strawberries are nearing the end of their productive years)
-organize the garden sheds (contact Mrs Lawatch for keys firstname.lastname@example.org)
-remove and haul away the compost piles (this is a BIG job, and Mrs. Lawatch will willingly bring her family to help anyone willing to take this on)
*please bring gloves if you are planning on working on the strawberries or compost pile as there are lots of bugs enjoying the garden habitat at this time of year.
Thanks to all the families who have adopted the garden this summer, your work is very appreciated and we will hopefully be harvesting the fruits of your labor in no time!
