To our Rolling Hills Families,
There is excitement is in the air with the anticipation of the first day of school (Wednesday, August 22nd). We want your child to learn right away that the expected routines are important to keep them safe and happy. Your help will be necessary to make this happen. We do want you to feel WELCOME at the school and know that we take seriously the trust that you place in us to care for and imbue learning for your child. We want to make the first day special for you and your child(ren).
The reality to the first day is that there is a lot of congestion and emotions. I want to communicate to the parents so that the first day of school is as special as it is intended to be, while establishing the necessary routines to get to LEARNING and Achieving More!
Our goal is to have parents and students go to the back of the school when they arrive at 7:30 am for breakfast or 7:45 am for all others. For our first day, parents and visitors will be met by school staff to have you sign in and get a pink sticker badge; outside in front of the school. We make our security of students a priority. Please, do not go into the front door and enter the hallways, unless you need assistance at the front desk by Mrs. Friend and other staff. Gather at the back of the school, on the asphalt for our Welcome! Please participate in our School chant and Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag together. After we complete this daily routine, it will be time for students to enter the classroom and you to say goodbyes to your child. Remember, quiet in the hallways, SHHHHHH.
Safety First! Congestion will occur; we must have patience and courtesy while driving. To reduce the congestion in the front parking lot, the Optimist Parking lot will be open for you to park in Wednesday morning. There will be staff members outside to help direct you to a safe parking area. If you plan on walking your child into school, please park at the Optimist and walk along the park path to our gate on the north side of the school lot and walk with your child to the back of the school. If you have school supplies that your child needs to drop off, teachers will have tubs/totes outside their exterior doors so that you can place them there. These will be collected later by your child when they enter the classroom.
Second, timing is another aspect. If you are dropping off your child and not coming to the back, please drop off your child at 7:45 am using the loop drop off area. Remember patience and safety!
Third, Middle School Students (Grades 6, 7, 8) are the role models and leaders of the school. Middle School students will get their schedules in their homeroom class at the beginning of the day. Middle school students participating in athletics will be have practice after school and athletes will need to be picked up no later than 15 minutes after practices end, thank you!
Lastly, the end of the day pick up at 2:30. School will be dismissed at 2:30 pm, parents will park in the Optimist parking lot. (Refrain from parking in the spaces that are closest to the field, as we line the kids up in those spaces) We will have signs and staff to help you park safely. ALL students will be walked out of the building at 2:30 pm to the optimist parking lot and dismissed from there by their teacher. If you need your child to wait in the office area for you, please provide a note to the teacher so that we can accommodate your request. Students not picked up by 2:45 will be returned to the main building in the office area for you to pick them up there.
Let’s make the first day a GREAT Day! We want to establish our routines and create the SAFE and STRUCTURED environment immediately. With your cooperation and support we can accomplish this. Please call or contact me with any questions regarding the first day at 208-939-5400.
We are excited to start a new school year with warm regards,
